STATE HIGHWAYS AND MUNICIPAL ROADS The area is well-served by a network of federal and state highways and municipal roads. In fact, nearly 1,150 of Chester County's 3,000 miles of roads comes under the jurisdiction of PennDOT. 26 miles of the PA Turnpike runs through the county with the Downingtown interchange at Rt.. 100.Route 30, running from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, traverses the heart of central Chester County and is the most heavily traveled corridor, supported by Rt.. 202 and Rt.. 322. Other major roads include the PA Turnpike, Routes 100, Rt.. 1, Rt.. 41, Rt.. 3, Rt.. 252, Rt.. 23, Rt.. 724 and Rt.. 10. Chester County is a vital link in the transportation chain to major arteries including the Philadelphia International Airport (just 45 min. by car), the Port of Philadelphia, the Port of Wilmington, Interstate 95 and Interstate 476 (also known as the Blue Route). Two significant infrastructure projects are the completed $100 million dollar, 5.5 road project connecting the 30 By-Pass to Route 202, providing a traffic light-free route to major markets and planned upgrades to Route 202. Four section of heavily traveled Route 202, the high-tech corridor, connecting King of Prussia to Delaware's Wilmington area and serving many employment centers, are being studied for upgrading and widening to accommodate traffic needs. |
